I’m digging more into Coase’s career path after he came to the US. He moved to the University of Chicago in 1964. But this is the crazy part: he served as editor of the Journal of Law and Economics until 1982.
An economics professor was the chief editor of a major law review journal?
I always just thought of him as an author, a scholar. But being the editor... that’s a position of power. He wasn’t just writing in the field of law and economics; he was the gatekeeper. He was the one deciding which articles got published, effectively shaping the entire field.
An economist, running a law journal, at the University of Chicago.
Wow. Just... wow. Interesting.
