The Antitrust Miracle

Diary Entry: 8 March 2017

I was sitting in Antitrust class today, but I wasn’t hearing a word. The professor was going on about market concentration, but all my focus was on the small window minimized on my laptop screen. Barcelona vs. PSG. It looked hopeless. It seemed impossible.

And then, it wasn’t.

Minute by minute, goal by goal... the impossible started to happen. When the final goal went in, completing the most improbable comeback in football history, I felt an explosion inside me. I wanted to leap out of my chair, throw my hands in the air, and scream at the top of my lungs. My heart was hammering against my ribs.

But I was in class. I just sat there, staring blankly at the professor, trying to look like I was pondering the Sherman Act.

A second later, my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a Facebook message from my Indian friend — a die-hard Chelsea fan — who had been sitting in the row behind me.

I opened it.

“How the hell did you maintain that stoic face?”

I couldn’t even turn around. I just closed the message, took a deep breath, and tried to pretend my world hadn’t just turned upside down.
